SEMYO: Musical Improvisation for String Players (Gr. 7 and Up)
Youth Enrichment / Language, Music & Culture -
2021 Summer Youth
Students who play violin, viola, cello, and bass are invited to participate in a camp that will explore the foundations of musical improvisation! Participants will learn how to improvise on their instrument while performing a variety of musical styles in a string ensemble. This includes the art of soloing and comping while playing and learning as an ensemble. These skills will open up a world of endless possibility for musical collaboration and creation! The camp will be taught by members of The OK Factor – Olivia Diercks (cello) and Karla Colahan (violin) – who are a new-classical crossover duo based in the Twin Cities and have been MPR Class Notes Artists for several years, as well as finalists for the McKnight Fellowships for Musicians in 2018. Contact SEMYO for more information at 507-282-1718 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The camp is open to string players with at least 2 years of playing experience (Suzuki book 3).
