Very young children communicate primarily with facial expression, body language, and gestures. Baby Signing Time taps into your child’s natural ways of communicating by introducing you and your family to American Sign Language (ASL). Studies have shown that consistent use of signs with babies can help children develop language at an earlier age, can reduce frustration and tantrums, and increase bonding between parent and child. There are many other benefits as well, that we will discuss in class! Come and enjoy stories, songs, and movement activities with your child while you learn some of the words that make up the beautiful language of ASL.
This class is intended for 1 or 2 parents (or caregivers) to attend with their children ages birth - 36 months. Disclaimer: This is not a class in American Sign Language, which has its own grammar and syntax and is very different from spoken English. Rather, I will be teaching ASL vocabulary, and helping families learn how to use these signs consistently within their typical daily routines.
