    In this class, children and parents will spend time playing, creating, and exploring together each week. Parents will transition gradually, over the first few weeks, to parent discussion in a separate room while children continue to play and learn in the Early Childhood room with our Early Childhood experts. During parent time, parents will discuss development, temperament, parenting strategies, discipline, and a wide variety of parent selected topics. Parents move to a separate room for discussion.

    Your energetic little one is growing and trying new things, so establishing routines and being consistent is very important. As your child learns through play and social interactions, you will discuss parenting techniques that help you appreciate the "little things" in your life. Open registration begins in the fall, followed by priority registration for our winter and spring sessions, allowing the group participants to remain together for the entire school year. New participants are welcome to register if space permits. Parents move to a separate room for discussion.

Everything seems to be changing and changing quickly! That’s why it is so important to have updated and correct plans in place. Powers of attorney, wills, trusts, health care directives, funeral and/or cremation directives, and long term care options and preferences all play a roll in your end-of-life planning. This program will be a great opportunity to dispel myths, remove doubt, and get real answers to any questions you might have.

    The early 1970s was the era of great singer/songwriters. Spend an evening learning about and listening to the music of four great artists. The class will cover: Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Gordon Lightfoot, and John Denver.

    The term “Southern Rock” first appeared in 1972. Come and learn the origins of southern rock music and then learn about and listen to some of the famous Southern Rock groups of the 1970s. The class will cover: The Allman Brothers Band, Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and ZZ Top.

    Summer of Service is a service-learning summer program for youth entering grades 5-12. During each two-week session, students will work in teams to perform service projects in our community, witness the missions of local organizations firsthand, and reflect on how their personal talents can be used in service to others. Fridays are designated for Fun Friday activities where we will celebrate our work! Join SOS for two weeks of fun today! We recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of SOS, and we can't wait to continue our mission: “The main reason to begin a Summer of Service program in our community is to show youth that our community values them and challenges them to contribute through service…This Summer of Service program will give our youth the skills and tools necessary to help our community, at the same time allowing them to develop through a structured program.” -Proposal for SOS in 1997 Full Days of SOS During COVID precautions, Summer of Service was split into half day camp. We are excited to announce that Summer of Service 2024 will be a full day camp! This will give us the potential for bigger projects and more elaborate Fun Fridays. SOS Sessions Session 1: June 17-21, June 24-28. No SOS on June 19 Session 2: July 8-12, July 15-19 Session 3: July 22-26, July 29-August 2 Students are welcome to register for multiple two-week sessions. Similar service projects may be repeated between sessions. Community Partners We are proud to serve non-profit organizations in Rochester and the surrounding area. We take buses to their locations, they teach us about their missions, and we help them with whatever projects they have planned for us. Ten students can get a lot done in just a few hours, and over the course of the summer, multiple teams of SOS students can leave a meaningful impact. These are a few of our partners from recent years: Camp Companion Channel One Family Promise Rochester Habitat for Humanity PossAbilities Seasons Hospice T-Shirts You will see us all over town in our iconic tie-dye t-shirts.     4Kicks Family Taekwondo (Ages 4-7)

    Taekwondo is a fun family activity and great for students of all ages! Under the instruction of Patricia Young, with the American Taekwondo Association, students will improve their coordination, balance, strength, and agility while adults will benefit from improved memory, balance, and flexibility. This is an introductory course for students new to Taekwondo. Students who wish to continue Taekwondo lessons after completing this course should contact 4Kicks Family Taekwondo for further information. One adult may attend and participate with the child at no extra charge. Classes are held at 4Kicks Taekwondo, 4915 Hwy 52 NW, Frontage Road, on the north side of the Slumberland building. Driveway entrance is between Slumberland and State Farm and the door is between the Detour Athletics door and the Slumberland pick-up door.

Over a period of 75 years, over 400,000 children traveled by train to find new parents and families. Learn why the children traveled, what conditions they left behind, and who assisted them in finding a new family. Through a PowerPoint, videos, and many orphan train riders’ stories, you will find you'll want to learn more about these children.
