Mayo Planetarium’s “Native Star Knowledge”

Adult Enrichment / Nature -
2025 Fall Adult Catalog

Throughout history, every culture has created its own stories about the stars. These celestial narratives often served as a way to pass down traditions and teach children about their people's values and way of life. Come learn about the star knowledge related to the cultures native to Minnesota: the Ojibwe and D(L)akota Native Americans. The word “Minnesota” is a Dakota word that can be translated to mean “the land of water that reflects the stars.” Come see how the philosophy of “As it is Above, it is Below” shapes our understanding of the universe around us. Suggested ages 10+.
