Join us for sessions on digital media, brain development, and how best to manage your technology use and support your children in having a healthy media mindset.
Media & Brain Development in Children
Morning Session (10:00–11:30 AM)
The first session will focus on the impact of media on children. Our presentation will explore the current digital landscape, and provide a strategy toolkit. Parents, caregivers, educators, and students are welcome to attend.
Lunch & Discussion (11:30–1:00 PM)
A boxed lunch will be provided, along with opportunities for guided table conversation. Lunch will include a main option, along with fresh fruit, chips, a cookie, and bottled water or soda.
Social Media, Teens & Values-Based Engagement
Afternoon Session (1:00–2:30 PM)
The second session will focus on our current media landscape, and how we can align our values with our technology use. Participants will learn how to use media for prosocial engagement. Parents, teens, young adults, educators, and healthcare providers are welcome to attend.
Dr. Nusheen Ameenuddin is an Assistant Professor and Consultant (tenured staff physician) in the Division of Community Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Previously, she was a pediatrician at MeritCare Clinic and a full-time active medical staff in pediatrics at North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji, MN. She is most passionate about advocating for underserved populations and immigrant populations who face significant barriers to healthcare, including language, health literacy and transportation. Dr. Ameenuddin received her medical degree in 2002 and her MPH degree in 1998 from the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. She completed a residency in pediatric and adolescent medicine at Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, Mayo Clinic, in 2005.
Dr. Annie Margaret is a professor at the University of Colorado Boulder and founder of the Post-Internet Project, where she leads PRISM—a research-backed program supporting meaningful, values-aligned media consumption as an antidote to social media addiction. With a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from Northwestern University, Annie brings scientific rigor to her work on well-being, mindfulness, and the impact of social technologies on our minds, bodies, and relationships. Her research and teaching center on practical, compassionate strategies that help individuals, families, and communities navigate the digital age with greater clarity, connection, and resilience.
