2022 Summer of Service (SOS) Session 2 (Gr 5-12)Youth VolunteerSOS is back! Summer of Service is a service based summer program for youth entering grades 5-12. During each two-week session students will work in teams to provide help in and around our community performing a variety of service and volunteer based learning projects. Fridays are designated for Fun Friday activities where we will celebrate our work! Participants must wear an SOS t-Shirt each day. One t-shirt is included with your registration tuition. Returning participants may wear previous years t-shirts as well. Additional SOS t-shirts may be purchased upon registration. A parent/guardian handbook will be emailed to all participants prior to each session start date. Join SOS for two weeks of fun today! SOS prides itself on providing high impact and meaningful service learning opportunities in and around our community. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, our volunteer and partnership opportunities are limited. In order to continue to provide the most meaningful opportunities available, SOS has transitioned to a half-day camp for 2022. The AM camp will run from 8:00-11:00 AM and the PM camp will run from 12:00-3:00 PM. Students may register for the AM or PM option or may register for both. Students registering for both AM & PM will remain on site under staff supervision between sessions. A bag lunch will be provided to all participants in both AM & PM sessions. Students are encouraged and welcome to register for multiple 2-week sessions if desired but may be repeating similar service work projects. Thank you for your understanding of this year’s changes and thank you for supporting Summer of Service! *All current COVID-19 Prevention Standards under the guidance of Minnesota Departments of Health and Education and the Centers for Disease Control to minimize exposure to the novel coronavirus will be followed. Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up- Supervision and building access will not be available for students prior to or after the scheduled drop-off and pick-up times. We kindly ask all parents/guardians to respect these times to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. Advantage ACT Test Preparation (Gr. 10-12) Self-Paced Online CourseACT Prep and College AssessmentThe Online ACT Prep Course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend in-person classes or for students who prefer to prepare for the ACT exam at their own desired pace. Pre-recorded slides and videos from Advantage instructors guide students through strategies, techniques, drills, and intensive subject matter reviews that help increase scores on the ACT. Once enrolled, students will be sent an access code for their class via email. This code will allow them to access course material anytime. Students may also repeat this course at no extra charge. This self-paced online class is available any day and any time. Please use your Google email account as the primary email address when registering. Advantage ACT Test Preparation Virtual Online Course (Gr. 10-12)ACT Prep and College AssessmentAdvantage Educational Programs introduce the ACT format and strategies for answering questions as well as instruction for the specific subject areas to be tested. This course is designed for students who wish to improve their test-taking skills and overall score on the ACT college entrance exam. This course is intended primarily for students in 10th through 12th grade, however, students in other grades may still register. Focal points of the program include: diagnostic testing, science reasoning, intensive mathematical review, reasoning comprehension improvement, concentration improvement, overcoming test anxiety, and time management. This virtual classroom meets for 3 hours, one day each week for four weeks and is taught live, via Zoom by an Advantage instructor who provides instruction and interaction with the students. Internet connection and access to a computer or laptop is required. Class recordings are available for students who need to make up a class.2022 Fall Youth

The YouTube “vlogger” style presentation of the video brings a youthful and high-energy spirit to the program content, and the colorful magazine format of the student book makes learning fun. From getting started with your business, to working with parents and children, to key safety, caregiving, and first aid tips, CABS will help set you up for babysitting success. Students must be present for the entire class and complete achievement of the core learning objectives to receive certification valid for two years. Parents need to be sure their children have the skills and maturity to handle the responsibility safely. Whether it is for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, being trusted to be home alone can be a positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared. This class for children will address several topics relating to being “Home Alone” including age guidelines, safe habits, house rules, after school routines, phone calls and door knocks, dog emergencies, personal safety, handling the unexpected, gun safety, severe weather, fire safety, intruders, and first aid tips. WaitlistJunior Learn to Row (Ages 11-18)Recreation & Sports*Class time has changed from 9:30-11:30 AM to 6-8 PM* Our Junior Learn to Row program is a great introduction to the sport for athletes who are new to rowing. Time will be spent on rowing machines and on the water in rowing shells. They will learn valuable skills such as teamwork, fitness conditioning, and safety on the water. Once the rower completes the learn-to-row program, they are eligible to join the Junior Crew. This program is coached by high-level coaches who make learning to row easy and fun. No experience needed. Bring plenty of water, wear sunscreen and work-out clothes that are not baggy. Please note: class will meet if it is raining, but cancel if there is lightning.
