Over a period of 75 years, over 400,000 children traveled by train to find new parents and families. Learn why the children traveled, what conditions they left behind, and who assisted them in finding a new family. Through a PowerPoint presentation, videos, and many orphan train riders’ stories, you will find you'll want to learn more about these children. Mary Griffin, the daughter of an Orphan Train Rider, will share her mother’s story.

    American Sign Language

    Want to learn basic American Sign Language skills for communicating with deaf and hard-of-hearing people? Expressive and receptive skills will be developed in vocabulary, finger spelling, and number concepts. Storytelling concepts, as well as translating music, will be added to this class. Focus will be on the use of ASL signs and concepts following English word order. No textbook required; handouts will be provided.

    Come to Historic Tunnel Mill in the valley and paint your own Barn Quilt Block. During the class you will work on your pattern that you have chosen from one of the offered blocks, then tape and paint your barn quilt block. Tips on taping and painting your barn quilt block will be taught. We will offer some basic patterns and sizes for you to choose from ahead of class. We are using an aluminum composite which is very light weight and durable for exterior use. Sizes to choose from: 4 x 4 ($200), 3 x 3 ($150), 2 x 2 ($100) or 12" x 12" ($50).
